Toronto’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Off (CCCO2018) held Sunday, July 8 2018 and sponsored by Callebaut Chocolate, yielded the answer that true chocolate chip cookie fans have been asking: Who makes the best chocolate chip cookie in the city?

This unique competition pitted professionals, such as La Dolci Cupcakes and Cakes against gifted amateurs. CCCO2018 yielded some surprising results.

Second place went to Sweet Flour Bake Shop, with their Salted Caramel-stuffed Chocolate Chunk Cookie. 3rd place was award to amateur baker, Zen Baker with her Chocolate Chip Chip Cookie, a chocolate chip cookie topped with rippled potato chips. The first place winner for the coveted title went to Sweets From The Earth, with their Hazelnut-filled chocolate chip cookie.

The event raised over $91,500, according to the organizer, Sol Orwell. Orwell is donating his own money to “make sure we crack $100,000.” The funds raised were divided equally between three organizations:

3.    Business in the Streets

Orwell, an entrepreneur himself, appreciates the value that access to training and education brings, but knows that is often difficult to come by for under-privileged youth.  He believes that providing funding for budding entrepreneurs will only help increase business in Canada, while helping end the cycle of poverty.

“The biggest nice surprise was that after I told all the competitors we would be donating the extra cookies, over 50 per cent of the competitors made Extra cookies!” Exclaimed Orwell. “So, we ended up donating over 100 lb of chocolate chip cookies!”
