September 14, 2011, Toronto – Show your heart some love on World Heart Day.
Since 2000, the World Heart Federation and its members have dedicated World Heart Day on Sept. 29 to spreading the message that at least 80 per cent of premature death from heart disease and stroke could be avoided if the main risk factors – including tobacco, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity – are controlled.
Last year, the organization's "State of the Heart" report cited increased awareness of the impact of diet and physical activity on heart health as the third greatest achievement for cardiovascular disease in the past decade.
