NSF-GFTC chooses food safety awards selection committee

Sept. 29, 2014, Guelph, Ont. – NSF-GFTC, formerly the Guelph Food Technology Centre and now part
of NSF International’s Global Food Division, has chosen the selection
committee for the third annual Food Safety Recognition Awards.

of NSF International’s Global Food Division, has chosen the selection
committee for the third annual Food Safety Recognition Awards.

NSF-GFTC
created the awards to recognize excellence in food safety and quality
and encourage companies and individuals to strive for continuous
improvement and efficiency to raise the level of food safety and quality
in Canada.

To judge the 2015 award
nominations, NSF-GFTC has brought together diverse members of the food and
beverage industry. The  committee’s backgrounds,
accomplishments and experiences reflect the diversity of the food and
beverage
industry in Canada, said NSF-GFTC in a news release. The members of the selection committee are:

  • Susan Abel, Vice President, Safety & Compliance, Food
    & Consumer Products of Canada
  • Albert Chambers, President, Monachus Consulting
  • Sharon K. K. Beals, Vice President, Food Safety &
    Quality, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods
  • Carmine (Carmen) DeRenzis, Director, Quality Assurance and
    Food Safety, Canada Bread Company Limited
  • Tom Graham, Director, Domestic Inspection Division /
    National FSEP-HACCP Manager, Canadian Food Inspection Agency
  • John Kukoly, BRC Global Standards
  • Don Lacey, Private Consultant
  • Trevor Smith, Quality Integration Solutions
  • Keith Warriner, Professor, University of Guelph, Department
    of Food Science

“We are delighted these
exceptionally talented and experienced individuals have agreed to serve
as our
selection committee members for the NSF-GFTC Food Safety Recognition
Awards," said Frank Schreurs, Global Managing Director, Food Safety Consulting and
Technical Services. "This awards program seeks to recognize Canadian individuals and
companies who embody the high standards of food safety and quality.  I
am confident our selection committee members
will bring their extraordinary knowledge and understanding of food
safety and the food industry to that goal.”

The awards submission period
opened Sept. 1, and nominations will be accepted until Oct.
17, 2014. Award recipients will be announced at the 2015 NSF-GFTC Safe
