December 12, 2011, Toronto – George Brown College's first year baking students whipped up a winter wonderland last week during the school's annual gingerbread contest.

First place went to Courtney Thompson and Meagan Moore for their clean, classic design.

In second place with a different take on a Christmas classic were Kelly Amaral Godin and Claudia Sacchetti. Third place went to Marilyn Wasney's treehouse creation.

The following students were also recognized, earning honourable mentions for their work:

  • Sackia Scott for most unique entry;
  • Doriene Bugash and Adriana Jacobs for the "too cute" entry;
  • Charlene Rolfe and Laura Carson for "winter haze";
  • Hyokyung Kay Kim for the most original idea; and
  • Petra Bockus and Janna Joseph for the most architecturally sound entry.

The contest was judged by Dufflet Rosenberg of Dufflet Pastries, Andrea Aguirre, the second place winner from last year's competition, and Bakers Journal editor Laura Aiken.
