Competitive juices flowing

Oct. 6, 2009 – Thanks for your feedback about my last blog post, "Iron Pastry Chef." I heard from several readers who were highly enthusiastic about the need for Canada's baking industry to take advantage of the popularity of competitive cooking shows and events as a way to showcase the brilliant work being done by our talented professionals and students.

Truth be told, I've received more feedback about this blog post than anything else I've written for the magazine – a sign that the topic has struck a nerve. But where do we go from here? How do we tap into the desire for more competitions and turn talk into reality? In the near term, Canada's Bakery World Cup team is still accepting applications. If you're interested, contact Team Canada's Alan Dumonceaux at adumonce@nait.ca or 780-471-8693.

In the meantime, e-mail your suggestions for baking/pastry competitions to editor@bakersjournal.com and I'll do my best to pass them along to the right people.
