Toronto Food Film Fest announces films, seeks chef partners

August 31, 2022  By Bakers Journal

Toronto – The Toronto Food Film Fest has announced its full lineup of food-themed films. The festival will include film screenings paired with carefully curated snacks, as well as talks, tastings and dinners.

With a lineup of eight feature films and 18 short films, TFFF will showcase some heavy-hitting films including two Canadian feature films. Movies such as Umami (France), making its North American premiere from Cannes Film Festival-selected director Slony Sow, will offer the audience a scripted, fictional escape through a French chef travelling to Japan played by Gerrard Depardieu. In Chocolate Wars, Copenhagen’s award-winning director Miki Mistrati poignantly sheds a light on child slavery in the cocoa and chocolate industry.

Chefs will be serving curated snacks to pair with each screening, and Bottega Volo, now in the Royal Theatre lobby, will offer their exclusive concessions.

Back at The Royal Theatre on College Street and other Little Italy venues for the first time since the pandemic began, TFFF will again bring together food and film lovers from across Toronto combining in-person screenings, workshops, dinners, tastings and more. The selection of movies will also be available virtually to Ontario residents, providing greater accessibility to all.

Festival organizers are looking to pair each feature with a chef from around the city. Last year, for example, the festival showed a movie about a Ramen Master and served ramen from Crafty Ramen to eat with the film.

“Bringing people together through food and film has always been a goal of TFFF and this year we seem to have a common theme of bringing food and family together,” said Jacqueline Tam, co-founder of The Festival.
