Jan. 8, 2014, Vancouver – The Original Cakerie is marking its 35th anniversary by giving away 3,500 family-sized gourmet cakes to charity organizations throughout Canada.

“Currently, over 2,500 freshly-produced cakes have been delivered to food banks in December and we are looking for more charity organizations to donate our premium-quality cakes to as we welcome the New Year. We have been privileged to grow to where we are today and we think that it will be meaningful to celebrate our 35th anniversary by giving back to our community,” said Dave Hood, president and chief executive officer of The Original Cakerie, in a news release.

The Original Cakerie is one of the largest privately owned dessert manufacturers in Canada. The bakery produces cakes, bars and brownies that are served in thousands of grocery retail in-store bakeries, restaurants, schools and hospitals throughout North America.

The company started in 1979 as a small bakery producing desserts in Victoria, B.C., and has now moved on to hire more than 600 employees and own two manufacturing plants in Canada. The founders, Doug McFetridge and Kent Norris, remain co-owners and serve on the board of directors.
