Is baking cakes the new rock ‘n’ roll?

According
to a recent survey by German baking expert Dr Oetker more than a third of
Britain's under-25s (half of which are apparently male) are regular cake
makers and consider it a "sexy" activity, rather than a drudge.

Cake queen Jane Asher attributes the trend to various factors. Firstly
Nigella Lawson , who made it look possible to cook and eat cake, and still look
clean and glamorous. Secondly, the recession and people refusing to spend
money on something they can make at home. And, thirdly, the large amount of
successful cake mixes on the market. Baking also fits in neatly with our
