Health Canada seeks feedback on regulations for special dietary foods

Health Canada is seeking comments on a proposal to modernize the regulations for foods for special dietary use and infant foods, regulated under Divisions 24 and 25 of the Food and Drug Regulations. This will inform the development of regulations for these foods.

Health Canada is seeking input from all interested stakeholders, including:

  • consumers
  • industry stakeholders and associated organizations
  • health professionals and associated organizations
  • all levels of government
  • academics and researchers
  • non-governmental organizations

Key questions for discussion include the following:

  • the proposed modernized framework
  • the proposed requirements for infant formula, prepackaged human milk, medical foods, conventional infant foods, gluten-free foods, formulated nutritional foods
  • and foods for use in weight reduction diets
  • the proposal for shortage provisions applicable to all foods for a special dietary purpose

Members of the public are encouraged to review the proposal to modernize the regulations for foods for special dietary use and infant foods, including consultation questions; send an e-mail to bns-bsn@hc-sc.gc.ca with ideas or comments; or send a letter to this address:
