Ottawa – Food and Beverage Canada, on behalf of Canada’s food and beverage manufacturing sector, is calling for a swift resolution to the British Columbia port work stoppage.

“While we respect the collective bargaining process, Canada’s food system depends on a reliable infrastructure to ensure that Canadians have access to the food they need,” the association said in a news release.

“As such, we are urging the impacted parties to come to an agreement and are requesting that the government use all the measures available to it to immediately resolve this work stoppage. Furthermore, we stress the need for a contingency plan to be put into place to secure Canada’s food system in the event of labour action.”

FBC-ABC said Canada’s critical infrastructure, including the food and beverage manufacturing sector, has undergone significant strain to the supply chain over the past several years, and that further disruptions will make it increasingly difficult for companies and workers to ensure the food system continues to function smoothly.
