Bakery keeps oven fires burning

Feb. 16, 2009, SASKATOON – One of the ovens at the Nutana Bakery on Broadway Avenue is built like
a Brink's van, which is to say it's grey and squat and substantial.
Made of brick, it's almost a room unto itself in the back of the shop.

Made of brick, it's almost a room unto itself in the back of the shop.

A long, paddle-ended stick – a peel, bakers call it, used to slide food in and out of the oven – is on standby.

As
ovens go, this one is old. Old but faithful, it's been in service for
