Although there were fewer limited-time-offer launches this spring than previous spring seasons, operators are still coming up with innovative offers. Technomic’s recently published LTO Seasonal Review report spotlights recent trends in sweet and savoury specials in each mealpart.

Here are some of the trends that emerged from spring LTOs:

Lettuce wrap appetizers:

• Asian-inspired dish featuring meat, such as chicken, along with vegetables, wrapped in lettuce
• Low-carb option
• Often served with spicy sauces

Butter chicken entrees:

• Indian dish made with a rich tomato and butter sauce
• Spotlighted in non-traditional ways, such as in sandwiches and atop pizza
• Example of global ingredients adding a unique element to classic dishes

Cookies and cream desserts:

• Dessert flavour combining vanilla or cream and chocolate sandwich cookies
• Being featured as a flavour for cheesecakes, ice cream and cake pops
• Adaptation of chocolate- or vanilla-based desserts that can add excitement
