Bakers in Canada: Your opinion matters! Take the BAC’s survey on labour shortage challenges
August 23, 2023 By Baking Association of Canada
Martin Barnett, executive director of the Baking Association of Canada, is urging baking professionals across Canada complete a brief survey to help the BAC and the federal government assess the labour shortage challenges bakers are facing.
Bakers are not included in the Employment and Social Development Canada list of recognized Canadian occupations deemed to be in shortage.
The BAC sent a request to complete a survey on the labour shortage challenges that the baking industry is facing.
The association is using the results of the survey to inform the government of the critical labour challenges in the bakery industry in Canada. The ESDC has announced a fast track and user-friendly recognized employer program that will reduce the paperwork for many employers using the TFW program.
In the most recent BAC newsletter, Barnett said, “The BAC is extremely concerned that the BAKER classification was left off the list while Cooks and Chefs are included. We are working to rectify this situation. It is very important that you complete the survey so we have documented data to push forward our advocacy on this issue. If you have specific concerns regarding the labour shortage and/or your dealings with the TFW program, please also contact us directly so we can share your concerns.”
