Bakers average 15 hours on each wedding cake, study suggests

New York – Bakers spend an average of 15.4 hours creating a single wedding cake, suggests a U.S. study that aims to document the hard work of small businesses and impact on both their local communities and the approximately $96 billion wedding industry.

The small business study, conducted by online wedding brand and app The Knot, celebrates local wedding professionals and the hours, attention to detail and dedication they provide to create a memorable experience for every couple.

According to the study, the average local wedding business has been operating in their community for 19 years.

It breaks down contributions from specialty business categories such as venues, caterers, photographers, bakers, musicians and florists.

As for bakers, the average wedding cake requires 13.5 cups of sugar, the study found. For couples who fancy florals, bakers spend an average of 26.8 minutes crafting each decorative sugar flower.

Between baking and decorating, cakes are a work of art and a labour of love, the study said. An average total of 15.4 hours is dedicated to creating a single wedding cake, and bakers handle an average of 88 weddings and 300 other events each year.
