Federal, provincial and territorial governments launch ‘Sustainable CAP’ to support agriculture and agri-food
April 19, 2023 By Bakers Journal
Ottawa – The federal government has announced the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a $3.5-billion, five-year agreement between the federal, provincial and territorial governments to strengthen the competitiveness, innovation and resiliency of the agriculture, agri‐food and agri‐based products sector.
The Sustainable CAP replaces the former Canadian Agricultural Partnership, which ended on March 31, 2023. The Sustainable CAP, which will run from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2028, will focus on the following:
- simplified and streamlined programs and services that are easier to access
- improvements to programs that help farmers manage significant risks that threaten the viability of your farm and are beyond their capacity to manage
- $2 billion in federal-provincial-territorial cost-shared strategic initiatives
- $1 billion for federal activities and programs
