CFIA allergy alert for #1 Gluten Free cake mixes

May 5, 2011, Ottawa – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued an allergy alert, warning that some #1 Gluten Free brand cake mixes contain milk that is not declared on the label.

The following products are affected by the alert:

• Five pound Chocolate Cake Mix (UPC 6 54367 43530 4) with lot code 33310-4
• Five pound White Cake Mix (UPC 6 54367 43505 2) with lot code 33310-4

These products were imported by McCall’s Bakers Warehouse, in Mississauga, Ont and may have been distributed nationally.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with consumption of the mixes, and the CFIA is working with the importer to remove them from the marketplace.
