Survey: Most Canadians don’t trust food industry

May 20, 2009, OTTAWA – Most Canadians don't trust industry to ensure the food that they
consume is safe and want the government to be more hands-on in the
policing of food companies, according to results of a national survey.

consume is safe and want the government to be more hands-on in the
policing of food companies, according to results of a national survey.

The survey of 1,001 Canadians, with findings to be released today,
determined that only 13.7 per cent of respondents put their faith in
food companies.

By contrast, 72.4 per cent of respondents identified
government food inspectors and scientists when asked which player they
would trust most to ensure the food they buy at the grocery store is
safe to consume.
