Study links cocoa and red berry mixture to improved brain function

Brain function in the elderly could be boosted by a mixture of cocoa powder, red berries or a combination of both, according to a new study out of Spain.

Researchers analyzed the effect of cocoa flavanols and red berry anthocyanins on brain-derived neurotrophic factor and nerve growth factor receptor and to establish the possible improvement in cognitive performance by using a battery of neurocognitive tests.
