May 2, 2014, Toronto – Stonemill Bakehouse is
receiving an investment of $147,000 in provincial funds through Ontario’s new Local
Food Fund.
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne visited the
bakery on April 26 to help highlight more than 60 other innovative local food
projects across Ontario receiving support through the fund.
The funds are intended to help the company
market and increase distribution of its new Prince Edward County Rye Bread
across the province, expand the use of rye grown in Prince Edward County in its
other breads, strengthen its supply chain with Prince Edward County farmers,
and challenge other retailers, bakeries and farmers to establish local food
supply chains
The Local Food Fund is part of the Ontario
government’s broader local food strategy to promote food that is grown,
harvested and made across the province.
