Bimbo Canada, owner of Vachon Bakery, confirms that the Vachon bakery in Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce is scheduled to begin baking snack cakes with lines operational within eight weeks, once it has completely recovered from flood damage affecting the region.

Associate safety and well-being as well as food safety, environmental and quality assurance measures will be considered before operations can resume.

Now that the flood waters have receded, more than 75 associates from the bakery, along with associates from across Canada, have been working tirelessly in Sainte-Marie to assess the damage and begin the work to get the bakery operational again.

"We deeply appreciate everyone who has supported us through this challenging time – our dedicated associates, our management team at the bakery, our Customers, our loyal Consumers, numerous public safety municipal, provincial and federal partners, and the Sainte-Marie community," said Marie-Ève Royer, Vice President, National Sales, Bimbo Canada in a press release.

"We are committed to the community and appreciate the skills of our Sainte-Marie associates. We are a proud contributor to the local and regional economies, and intend to remain so in the years to come."

Bimbo Canada is meeting with the bakery's associates in the next few days to update them on the situation and respond to all their questions.  The company is also exploring a variety of ways to minimize the impact on them personally with their union representatives and government.

Bimbo Canada has partnered with the Red Cross to raise funds for the region of Quebec to help associates impacted by the flood and will be matching donations.

The company’s press release also added that they are “committed to keeping shelves stocked with snack cakes, but despite our best efforts, our consumers favourite Vachon snack cakes may not be available in the weeks to come everywhere. Consumers may contact us at 1-844-485-1029 if they have questions about our snack cakes.”
