February 16, 2011, Ottawa – Yesterday Michel’s Bakery Café celebrated the official grand opening of its new location at Ottawa’s St. Laurent Centre and a significant redesign of its Rideau Centre location.

To mark the occasion, Michel’s has partnered with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Foundation, part of Children’s Miracle Network. Now through Feb. 20, a percentage of all proceeds from sales at both Ottawa locations will be donated to the CHEO Foundation.

The chain also brought executive chef Philip Smith to Ottawa to provide guests and media with a culinary demonstration and a chance to sample the bakery café’s fresh made European-inspired menu.

“We are thrilled to be bringing the new Michel’s Bakery Café to Ottawa. We feel this market will really embrace our true European-inspired bakery café serving fresh, quality, convenient cuisine,” said Philip Smith.

Michel’s offers freshly baked breads, scones, croissants, Danishes, soups, sandwiches and fresh ground coffee using high quality ingredients, and no preservatives or additives.

Launched in 1979 at Toronto’s Eaton Centre under the banner “Michel’s Baguette’s,” the brand quickly became famous for its pastries. Not only could customers smell the pastries, but they could see them being baked fresh throughout the day.
