Cargill researching 150 acres specialty canola
Cargill Specialty Canola Oil has signed a long-term lease, opening a 150-acre research farm in Aberdeen, Sask. (near the company’s crush facility in Clavet), which will develop high-yield traits to meet future surging demands. Heart-healthy oil demands are buoying the canola industry, with Canada expecting to more than double its crop production by 2015.

Partnership expands nutritional ingredients into Canada
Cyvex and C.K. Foods have teamed up in a multi-year distribution deal, giving the supplier of proprietary ingredients, including antioxidants, access to the Canadian marketplace. Toronto-based C.K. Foods, which collaborated with Cyvex on bringing PomActiv to Canada, is launching a new division, CK Nutritional Ingredients, reflecting the opportunities both companies see for scientifically researched nutraceuticals.

Weston’s 125th marked by 2010 Olympic Official Supplier
The Vancouver Organizing Com-mittee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) and Weston Foods (Canada) announced that Weston Bakeries Ltd. has been named the Official Supplier of Bread and Baked Goods for the games. W. Galen Weston, chairman and president, George Weston Ltd., said, “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the 125th anniversary of my grandfather’s greatest achievement – the founding of this great bakery – than to be lending our support to Canadian athletes.”
