New Canadian consulting firm launches

November 28, 2011, Mannheim, ON – Bakers Journal columnist John Michaelides has formed a new consulting firm to serve food companies involved in processing and food technology.

J. Michaelides & Associates Food Technology Consultants specializes in baking technology, food processing, food safety, and functional foods and beverages, in addition to working in many other aspects of the food industry.

Michaelides holds a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo. He has more then 29 years of experience in the food industry, including two years as a research associate with the University of Waterloo's Centre for Process Development, and seven years as the Guelph Food Technology Centre's director of technical services and director of research and technology. Michaelides is also associated with the newly formed Institute of Food Processing Technology at Conestoga College.

  • BioEnterprise, a private, not-for-profit company established to help promote the creation, growth and expansion of agriculture-based businesses. The BioEnterprise team works as coach, catalyst, sounding board, and networking agent for producers, researchers, and entrepreneurs interested in commercializing their business ideas. 
  • Quentin Johnson of Quican Inc. is a professional with over 38 years of new product development, quality assurance, food safety and regulatory affairs experience in the milling and baking sectors. For the past 14 years he has provided technical assistance in the development and implementation of food fortification programs in 82 countries worldwide.
  • Neil Mathieson of GPC60 Technical Services is an independent grain processing consultant with extensive experience in grain processing operations and manufacturing management in Canada, the United States, Europe, West Indies and Venezuela. Mathieson has wide experience in planning, developing, implementation and commissioning of major grain processing projects.
  • Carol T. Culhane of International Food Focus Ltd. is a professional home economist with an MBA and a Certificate in International Food Law from Michigan State University. Culhane has more than 25 years of multidisciplinary experience in the food industry. She is highly regarded for her knowledge of food, regulations, business development strategies, business acumen, and her enthusiasm for the challenges of new ventures.
