March 15, 2013, Westchester, Ill. – Health Canada has approved Nutraflora prebiotic fibre as a dietary fibre source. This recent approval is a part of Health Canada’s revised Fibre Policy for Labelling and Advertising of Dietary Fibre-Containing Food Products, introduced in February 2012.
The approval means Nutraflora prebiotic fibre can be declared as a fibre source in food products as permitted by the food and drug regulations. Nutraflora has long been declared a dietary fibre in the U.S.
Ingredion says Nutraflora also delivers numerous formulation advantages such as flavour enhancement, fat-mimetic properties, improved mouthfeel and is suitable for use in low-calorie products. The company recommends its use in dairy, beverage, cereal, kids’ nutrition, supplement products and more.
