Greece wins Masters of Pastry 2021

Thursday May 20, Giannis Tsichlis and Vagelis Kallioras have won the Masters of Pastry title for 2021.

This year’s theme at the Zeelandia Masters of Pastry competition was “Design in Pastry.” Teams from around the world were tasked with combining “unique shapes with the right flavour pairing, appealing colours and selected textures.”

Their submissions were judged by jury members Willem Verlooy and Ramon Huigsloot, and online by the more then 2,000 pastry professionals who registered to watch the event.

Greece triumphed over Karol Plachta and Urszula Bartecka-Matuszewska from Poland and Fabio Ferrari with Valentina Scanavacca from Italy.

With the Polish team winning the categories of Best concept & storytelling and the snack-on-the-go with their Piña Colada Taco, and the Greek team winning Fine Pastry Cake with their Tarte Nature and the Best performing skills, it came down to the wire between these teams.

And even for the viewers it was almost too close to call. In the end, by the tiniest of margins, the Greek team was victorious due to …. and were crowned this years Masters of Pastry, winning an exclusive training at Le Cordon Bleu.

Pastry teams from over 20 countries participated in the preliminary sessions of Masters of Pastry. Each team consisting of a professional pastry chef supported by a Zeelandia pastry chef. Three teams made it to the final.

Masters of Pastry is organized by the Royal Zeelandia Group.
