One exhibiting company in particular was very pleased with the show, held May 16-18 at the International Centre near Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

"There was a lot of interest in new products, especially the Oliver Mini Chipper where bakers can now utilize their day old product and turn it into a healthy snack that is both nutritious and profitable," said Harvest Corp.'s Marika Wasaznik.

“The response by the
industry to Bakery Showcase this year indicates that they’re re-engaged,” confirms
Baking Association of Canada (BAC) president Paul Hetherington. “Attendance to
the show was up 20 per cent over 2008 and exhibitor sales were up 15 per cent.”

Bakers were also very interested in the labour-saving aspect of production equipment such as Koenig Continuous Divider Rounders, Wasaznik reports.

"Koenig products deliver efficiency and economy to the mass production of wide weight range of rolls," she says. "The response to Koenig product was extremely positive, especially for niche products."

showcase2Harvest, based in Mississauga, Ont., and Burnaby, B.C., also ran demonstrations on its Glimek Bread Systems, which offer bakeries cost-effective and reliable solutions for producing a wide variety of breads, including artisan breads and other applications.

"The overall mix of the attendance was dynamic; it was divided evenly between chainstores, wholesale plants and smaller bakeries," Wasaznik said. "There was a great balance between valued existing customers and new faces to our industry. Overall this was a very exciting show to be at!"
