DoorDash has launched services within its app to deliver grocery and convenience items, and alcohol to Canadian customers in select cities.

Called DashMart, the new grocery service is housed under the “convenience” tab in the DoorDash app and provides delivery of fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and dairy and other grocery and convenience items.

“We accelerated our launch into the grocery and convenience categories amidst the pandemic to address a heightened consumer need for household essentials on demand,” said Shilpa Arora, general manager of Canada, “Most importantly, we’ve seen from our DashMart locations in the U.S., that restaurants and local merchants can find success selling their retail products and reaching online customers in new ways or for the first time.”

In addition to a broad assortment of grocery staples, DashMart provides local merchant products from businesses like Juke Fried Chicken and Nook Pasta Room and local products such as coffees, craft sodas and snacks.

DashMart currently operates in five cities including Toronto, London, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Kitchener, with more locations expected to open in 2022.

The company also introduced an alcohol category for delivery of beer, wine, and spirits via the DoorDash Marketplace across Canada, several U.S. states and Australia. Customers in select markets, where legally permissible, can browse and order from a wide selection of drinks from restaurants, grocery stores, local retailers and convenience stores.
