April 12, 2013, Vancouver – COBS Bread received two awards on April 8 during a gala awards presentation at the 22nd annual Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) National Convention. Along with being awarded the CFA's 2013 Corporate Citizen Award, COBS was named a third time recipient of the Franchisees' Choice designation.
The Corporate Citizen Award recognizes a franchise system that has demonstrated genuine and ongoing concern and support for a community or social service group. Award recipients are selected based on their philanthropic innovation, support and impact to the community. Elements taken into consideration include involvement throughout the franchise system and integration into the corporate culture, profile given to the support recipient organization(s), sustainability, innovation in how funds are raised, demonstrated benefit to the community, and amount of funds raised.
"COBS Bread was selected for this award for their various fundraising initiatives including the donations from the grand opening of new bakeries, their partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada and their End of Day Giving and Dough Raiser Programs" said Lorraine McLachlan, president and CEO of the CFA. "The combined impact of these programs is impressive and, in many ways, unique."
The Franchisees' Choice designees are CFA member franchise systems who voluntarily took part in an independently administered survey. Franchisees were asked to assess their franchisor in key areas of the franchise business model, including the franchisee selection process; franchisee information package; leadership; business planning and marketing; training and support; ongoing operations; and the relationship between the franchisor and franchisee. This designation is part of the CFA Awards program recognizing excellence in franchise operations and celebrating the mutually-rewarding relationship between a franchise system and its franchisees. In order to qualify the franchisor must be a CFA Franchise System Member, have been franchising for three or more years and have demonstrated dedication to following the CFA's best practices.
