Canadian food giants join Walmart’s anti-hunger campaign

Mississauga, ON – Some of the world’s largest food companies have joined Walmart’s campaign to fight the hunger crisis in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada. The “Fight Hunger. Spark Change” campaign is now in its fifth year in the U.S. and second year in Canada.

For every participating product bought at Walmart, the company donates the equivalent of one meal to Feeding America, a U.S. hunger relief organization, and it’s sister organizations, Food Banks Canada and Breakfast Club of Canada.

From April 5 to May 2, participating suppliers will donate a portion of the sale proceed of items listed on their fundraising webpage purchased at Walmart. Participating suppliers are Ferrero, Frito-Lay Inc., Lassonde Industries Inc., General Mills, Inc., The Kellogg Company, Kraft Foods Group, Inc., Mars Inc., Maple Leaf Food Inc., Mondelez, Old Dutch Foods Inc., PepsiCo, Inc., Starbucks Corporation, Unilever. The maximum donation from suppliers is $850,000.

Walmart customers can round up their purchases at the register to the nearest dollar. A customer’s round up amount will be donated to Food Bank Canada’s local food bank partners. Walmart will match customer donations up to a maximum of $820,000.


According to Walmart’s Community Giving and Hunger Relief page, Walmart Canada has donated over $2.1 million since 2011 to Food Banks Canada and the Walmart Foundation has donated more than $2 million to build capacity in Food Banks Canada and Canadian food recovery networks including Second Harvest and Quest Food Recovery.
