Canadian Dairy Commission mulls second increase to farmgate milk price in 2022
June 21, 2022 By Bakers Journal
Ottawa – The Canadian Dairy Commission is considering increasing the farmgate price of milk for the second time in 2022 in response to a May 27 request from the Dairy Farmers of Canada for an increase due to inflation.
According to the request, this increase would come into effect on Sept. 1, 2022, and would be deducted from any price increase that may result from the routine price review in the fall of 2022.
In response to this request, the CDC Board consulted stakeholders between June 13 and 15, 2022. Announcement of its decision is expected today, June 21, at 3 p.m. EST.
The Canadian Dairy Commission is expecting to make an adjustment to the price of fluid milk in Newfoundland and Labrador on July 1.
The Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador are considering a five per cent increase to the price of fluid milk from $129.47 per hl to $135.94 per hl. DFNL intends to make the above-mentioned increase effective July 1, 2022. Final measures will be posted in advance, the week of June 27.
