img_2409May 19, 2011, Toronto – The Cake Show, a feast for the
senses, unfolded for a packed house on May 15.

The annual show, held by the Bonnie Gordon
College of Confectionary Arts, featured beautiful cakes vying for top honours
in the design competition, a cupcake challenge, live challenge and cake star
face off. This year’s overall theme was four seasons. Artscape Wychwood Barns
provided a beautiful metal beam, glass and brick venue that flooded the main
floor with an abundance of natural light for the many snapping cameras.

In the design competition, the Grand Prize
went Christine Truong of Cakes by Christine. Victoria Julien of Edible Delights
captured the title of Most Innovative, while the Trudy Chan of truDesigns
earned the vote for People’s Choice.

There were three mini challenges held
throughout the day. Bakers Journal sat on the jury for the Cacao Barry Cupcake
Challenge, won by Barb Nebor of Designer Cakes by Barb (featured in picture). Contestants had one
hour to decorate six cupcakes.

The live challenge, themed Celebrate May,
saw three designers face off in decorating a two-tiered cake in an hour. Andrea Sullivan of
Andrea’s Sweet Cakes tasted this victory.

The Cake Star Face Off was won by Beth
Appleton of Whimsical Wedding Cakes, who had six hours to create a spectacular
cake that featured the four seasons.

The show also featured expert demos and
cookie decorating. For more information on the annual show, visit www.thecakeshow.com .
