July 23, 2014, Newmarket, Ont. – An Ontario bakery has created a decadent cake for a five-year-old boy who
has 29 food allergies.
The child's allergies include sugar,
gluten/wheat, egg yolk and dairy products.
Treat Yourself Cakes & Catering bakes all products from
recipes using fresh ingredients, the bakery said in a release, and this process allows them to modify recipes for all
dietary needs. Although all allergens may be on the premises, every measure is
taken to ensure no cross-contamination. This is all explained to customers
before the order is taken so the customer can make the final decision.
The challenge was presented for a
client’s family celebration.
“He was so excited for having a cake for the first time,”
the client said. “The cake was delicious we gave him a serving size and he
finished it.”
Food allergies or intolerants are increasingly popular now, said Karen Fasulo owner Treat Yourself Cakes &
Catering, in the release. “We create sweet treats
for people every day; why not figure out how to make sweet treats for people
with dietary restrictions.”
