Aussie bakery rises to green challenge

Dec. 16, 2008 – With energy costs set to rise under the emissions trading scheme,
businesses have an added incentive to reduce consumption. But for
Australian bakery franchise Ferguson Plarre, the desire to make the family
business lean and green also has an environmental appeal.

businesses have an added incentive to reduce consumption. But for
Australian bakery franchise Ferguson Plarre, the desire to make the family
business lean and green also has an environmental appeal.

Director Ralph Plarre welcomed the move to introduce a carbon
trading scheme by 2010 and said his business was willing to go to
extremes to reduce energy use.

Within a year,
the bakery franchise plans to be able to tell consumers the carbon
footprint of each bakery item — from muffins to mud cakes — after
