June 28, 2012, Toronto – ACE Bakery launched a Canada-wide contest in March to find the nation’s best sandwich. Over the span of two months, the company received a remarkable response with almost 1,000 aspiring home chefs submitting their best sandwich recipes.

Each regional winner received a prize of $1,000 and an additional $1,000 for their favourite charity. They also received a chance to compete in a sandwich showdown judged by celebrity chef, Lynn Crawford, of Ruby Watchco Restaurant and Ruby Eats Gourmet Store, ACE co-founder, Linda Haynes, and ACE Master Baker, Marcus Mariathas. The grand winner received an additional $10,000 split between themselves and their favourite charity.

In conjunction with the contest, ACE launched a Canada-wide trade promotion to help support the competition, as well as the stores that featured it. Stores were asked to create their own ‘Canada’s Best Sandwich Contest’ display and submit photos to ACE to win a cash prize. The promotion ended on April 19 with several winners per region.

Winners were chosen based on their creativity to help promote the contest. Some stores held their own in-store ‘Best Sandwich’ contests, with consumers being asked to judge their favourites, and others cut up and sold signature sandwiches on 6-foot baguettes made especially for the occasion by ACE Bakery.

Congratulations to the winners!
