The SIAL Innovation award celebrated the best in international start-ups for snacks and beverages: The top three winners for 2019 were all Canadian.
Organised by Comexposium Group, SIALCanada is one of the members of SIAL Network, the world’s biggest network of trade fairs dedicated to food and drink. This year’s winners indicated an interest in plant-based foods, as all three top choices were vegan.
The Gold Award went to The Unbun, a Keto-friendly, vegan breadless bun. UnBun Foods is a Toronto based, certified keto, paleo, grain-free & gluten-free food company. Founded in late 2017, the company has grown to over 1,250 locations, including Whole Foods, Burger’s Priest, Erewhon and more in less than a year.
The Silver Award was won by Yummy Doh, a raw cookie dough that is advertised as “two treats in one.” It is a vegan, edible raw dough that can be eaten straight out of its container, or scooped out and baked like commercial cookie dough.
The Bronze was awarded to Löfbergs Canada Inc, creators of ICE, an RTD coffee drink packaged in a cardboard can that can be recycled. It’s a dairy free drink with ono added sugar, and is dairy free, being made with oat milk.
