Meet Satin Ice’s Latest Artists of Excellence

Satin Ice’s Artists of Excellence are elite cake artists from around the world who are all dedicated to their craft. Projecting exceptional talent, inventiveness with each creation and a strong passion for the Satin Ice brand, an Artist of Excellence embodies the true spirit of the cake decorating community and is an inspiration to cake artists all over the world.

The company’s latest Artists of Excellence are Willie Soto, Liliana Cuellar, and Rebekah Wilbur.

Willie Soto
Willie Soto found his vocation to baking during his culinary studies and decided to specialize in the art of cake decorating. He began taking specialized courses in Mexico and the United States with several cake designers and high end chefs. Determined to innovate and set a unique style in Mexico’s bakery world, he joined Liliana Cuellar in 2011 with the firm intention of offering to their customers gourmet cake fillings, honouring their profession with exquisite finishing and designs never before seen in Mexico.

Soto was a participant in Season 2 of the reality TV show The Next Great Baker Latin America by Discovery Networks at the end of 2015. In March 2016, Soto was invited for a special edition of pastry on the renowned TV Channel Teletica – Costa Rica in Sabores show. He has also been given the opportunity to be a judge in national cake and culinary pastry competitions. And last but not least he had the great honor to work together with Monica Azuara (Satin Ice Artist of Excellence) and Cuellar at the Americas Cake Fair Fashion Show with an edible wedding gown in 2015!

Liliana Cuellar
Liliana Cuellar studied hotel management in Bluche, Switzerland, and discovered her passion for pastry and the art of cake design during one of her professional internships. With the ultimate desire to open a cake shop that would convey all her love for the arts and her romantic/French style, she made the decision to learn from the best cake designers in Mexico, Switzerland, the United States, Spain and South America.

Liliana is currently the creative director and founder of VanilleCouture, one of the most exclusive bakeries in Mexico City since 2011. It is here where she exerts her passion of combining colours, shapes and textures in cakes and the wonderful experience of teaching customized courses as well.

With her delicate style in haute couture cakes and sophisticated accents, Cuellar has obtained a great recognition at the national level. Throughout the years, she has had the opportunity to teach classes internationally in Costa Rica, Argentina and in her home country of Mexico.

Most recently VanilleCouture has been invited to collaborate in a variety of Mexican magazines such as: Vanidades Novias Magazine, La Planner and Pan en Casa Especial Fondant Magazine. And to top it off in November 2016, they had the honour of being featured in the prestigious Cake Masters Magazine.

Rebekah Wilbur
Spending her days as editor of American Cake Decorating Magazine to evenings crafting beautifully elegant sugar flowers, Rebekah Wilbur is fully entrenched in the world of cake. She describes her cake-decorating style as classic, elegant, and floral.

However, in an interview with Satin Ice, she said, “My signature style is constantly evolving. I believe I am mostly known for making tiered, elegant wedding cakes with floral accents. I also like to make ‘out-of-the-box’ cake designs and I like to work with clients who are not afraid to push the creative envelope.”

Wilbur predicts that 2017 will see a return to simpler, more naturalistic cake designs – but with some flair.

“Metallics are still going very strong, over-sized floral, jeweled accents, bold colors, rose gold, bohemian chic. The trend for drip cakes is also still going strong. I created a lot of jewel tone cakes in 2016 and I am eager to see what 2017 will bring. I feel like cakes will be tending towards the more natural – like simple foliage and floral with a classic clean design.”
