Feb.17, 2015, Toronto — The Canadian Pastry Chefs Guild urgently needs support in the form of volunteers to fill several key positions within the organization, writes president Al Criminisi in an open letter to guild members.

The guild needs members to fill the following roles:

  • Monthly meeting organizer
  • Communication coordinator
  • IT person

According to Criminisi, “We as a guild had an interesting and tumultuous 2014 with many changes. A new board has been elected and unfortunately there was a very low membership turnout on election night.

“With only five board members, [who] all have full-time jobs, the guild struggled to organize regular monthly meetings, demos, updating the website, publishing a newsletter and several other things the board had planned.

“In order for 2015 to look different and provide the services the membership deservers, your board needs your support. Without your support, we are afraid the Canadian Pastry Chefs Guild Inc. will no be able to function in 2015 and beyond and will have to discontinue serving the pastry industry and its members.

“We are certain that no one wants that to happen, so we appeal to you as members and your commitment to our industry and professional education system by actively supporting your board and volunteer organization to continue serving the growing young generation of pastry chefs for many years to come.”

If you’re interested in serving in any of the positions listed above, please e-mail al@lentia.com.

The guild’s next meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m.
