New guideline: limit added sugars for kids to 6 tsp per day

Dallas, TX — According to recommendations published in an American Heart Association journal, children from the age of two to 18 should eat or drink no more than six teaspoons of added sugars daily. The AHA says that eating food high in sugar throughout childhood is tied to developing a string of health concerns. Added sugars can increase the risk of obesity and elevated blood pressure in children and can make them more apt to be insulin resistant — a precursor to type 2 diabetes, reports CBC News. | READ MORE
