Welcome back
Jan. 6, 2010 – It's a new year. For the past few days I've still been typing "2009," so perhaps a blog post about the calendar rolling over will get it through my head that the aughts, or naughties, or zeroes – or whatever they're called – are officially in the rear-view mirror. Usually, I'm the type of person to look ahead, not back, but when a decade comes to an end it's hard not to take a moment to ponder what it all meant.

The 10 years just past will be judged for all the wrong reasons, I'm afraid, ranging from the Sept. 11 attacks to the financial meltdown of 2009. In between, there were terrible tragedies and wars, and although the global economy was stimulated by some of history's most revolutionary technological achievements, much potential for progress has gone unfulfilled.

Maybe we'll look back with fondness on this past decade, eventually. Maybe it'll be seen as a time of turmoil that had to be endured for the sake of peace and prosperity. If nothing else, that's a good thought to start out the new decade.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday break and are now re-energized for a successful 2010 – and beyond. We have a lot of exciting things planned for the new year and we hope you'll come along for the ride. As always, get in touch with us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you have news to share or just want to share your thoughts about the baking business, the food industry in general, or whatever – maybe what to call the decade we just left behind? Anyway, welcome back, and happy new year!
