Demand for the H1N1 flu vaccine has been overwhelming clinics. In Toronto, lines formed as early as 6 a.m. and didn't let up throughout the day, forcing workers to turn people away and even causing road closures.
In my previous post, I wondered
whether demand for the vaccine would meet supply. There had been a lot
of speculation about the severity of the swine flu outbreak and whether
the vaccine was necessary. Since then, a healthy, hockey-playing,
13-year-old boy died from swine flu, setting off a tidal wave of media
hysteria. And just today, Alberta reported its 13th H1N1-related death.
From absentee workers to reduced number of shoppers, businesses – including bakeries – must be feeling the effects of the H1N1 scare. But unlike Halloween, this scare appears to be very real.
