Mintel reports steady cookie sales

Vinifera for Life now Kosher-certified
Dec. 21, 2007, Jordan, Ont. - Vinifera for Life announced on Thursday that it has received Kosher certification from the COR - Kashruth Council of Canada. The certification applies to all Vinifera powders produced according to the procedures set out by the Kashruth Council, and will now display the COR symbol on all their products.


Industry reduces trans fat levels
Dec. 21, 2007, Ottawa, Ont. - On Thursday, Health Minister Tony Clement released the first set of data from the governments’ trans fat monitoring program. The data shows trans fat levels were reduced in all food categories targeted in the first set of data, many to the recommended limit of five per cent of the total fat content, without increasing the level of saturated fats.

Sunopta to buy Tradin shares
December 7, 2007 – Toronto, Ont. - SunOpta will buy the remaining shares of The Organic Certification, B.V, otherwise known as Tradin Organic Agriculture B.V. in Amsterdam. SunOpta made the announcement on November 29. Tradin is a global provider of organic food ingredients, with annual revenues of $120 million.

ConAgra reduces sodium in products
December 7, 2007 - ConAgra Foods says it has removed almost three million pounds of sodium from its products, without changing the way they taste. The company says it will continue to look at ways of cutting back on the amount of salt in the products it makes.

BioEnterprise raises $400,000 for Vinifera for Life
December 5, 2007 - Guelph, Ont. - BioEnterprise Corporation announced today that it has raised $400,000 for Vinifera For Life, a Jordan, Ontario-based company. The funds came from six private sources with connections to the food, wine-making and agriculture industries.


Lallemand acquires Danish yeast plant
December 6, 2007 - Montreal, Que.– Lallemand announces the acquisition on October 29 of the yeast and molasses alcohol factory in Grenaa , Denmark, from V&S Distillers, leader of the Northern European spirits market. The Grenaa yeast plant, registered as De Danske Gærfabrikker A/S, currently employs a staff of around 80 people.
